Social Media Week Lagos 2018 is already upon us and it’s almost that time of the year when we sort through tons of event proposals to uncover the best and most engaging events for our week-long programming.
The global theme for SMW 2018, “Closer,” will explore the intensifying conflict between community and individualism. The conversation will bring together a diversity of perspectives to discuss the most productive ways to harness these forces to drive innovation, improve consumer experiences and bring people together. SMW Lagos’ 2018 programming will in part focus on how technology drives individualism, while also looking at how platforms and apps bring people “closer” and foster community.
From meetups and panels to masterclasses and startup demos, there are different event formats you can choose when preparing your event proposal. And to help you craft a noteworthy event proposal, we have reached out to some key social media week partners to share their event proposal tips.
Evans Akanno, CEO of Cregital says ‘’Ensure that you have your target audience in mind the whole time. This should guide your communication tone and the value you are offering. Keep it short and simple. Avoid excessive irrelevant information. Assume that people have lower attention spans’’.
‘’Always pitch something new, something with a fresh perspective. People always want to consume something new and unique. Get guests that are highly revered because of what they do but are rarely involved in public speaking’’ – Osagie Alonge, Managing Director at Pulse Nigeria.
Eki Ogunbor, Style Editor for BellaNaija says ‘’For the BN Style team, having a clear vision of what we wanted our audience to take home with them helped a lot in our decision making. With that in mind, picking the topics, speakers and moderators (who had knowledge on the chosen topics) became an easy task. Planning ahead and having a contingency plan is also important. If you start planning early, booking the speakers for the date of your event should be easy. However, if some aren’t available, having a plan B always helps.’’
