The African Women In Tech Luncheon is an informal lunch put together by Purple as part of it’s efforts to have women network and have engaging conversations with African Women Leaders in Tech. Beyond the high level panel discussions aimed at demonstrating the power of social media in empowering women, organizers of Social Media Week Lagos and the good people at Purple thought it necessary to have a more relaxed atmosphere where young women can mingle freely and have enlightening conversations with successful African women leaders in various fields of endeavour.
High flying women such as Minister of State, Federal Ministry of State, Trade, Industry & Investment, Aisha Abubarkar; CEO of House of Tara, Tara Fela-Durotoye; Social Media Strategist, CCC Consulting Services, Chioma Agwuegbo; CEO of Efina, Modupe Ladipo were among those in attendance. Founder of Social Media Week Obi Asika also graced the exclusive lunch with his presence.
Attendees used the opportunity to network among themselves, as the discourse around the huge potentials that social media has at this time thrived on each table. In line with the objective of the event to help participants leverage networks and build influence, friendships and business alliances were forged as everyone enjoyed the great cocktails and array of delicious snacks provided.
One of the attendees, Tonte Ikiriko, a brand manager expressed her excitement about the ability to network and meet with women of like minds who are willing to come together to find ways to collaborate to boost their individual enterprises, and possibly metamorphose into helping other young women ultimately. She was grateful to Purple for the great meal too.
Wumi Asubiaro-Dada of Purple spoke about the purpose of bringing women who are in decision-making positions together to further advance the cause of the organisation, which is basically fostering equal gender opportunities in the digital world in Nigeria. She expressed delight at the turn out, and eagerness on the part of attendees to take full advantage of the opportunity provided in a world where an individual’s progress and net worth is increasingly determined by their network.
