Despite how heavily dependent on the Internet we have become, a majority of its users do not have a clue as to how it functions. A lack of computer science education in most grade school curriculums and the intimidating nature of such a seemingly omnipotent technology are both to blame for our illiteracy. Thankfully, the clever folks over at OpenSite were kind enough to create a stunningly simple infographic, delineating the complexities of the Internet with comprehensible graphs, pie charts and more. Vocabulary like server, Protocol Suite, IP address, and Domain Name System are all defined in such a way that a fifth grader would even understand their meanings. Also included in this informative infographic are bar graphs illustrating the exponential growth of the Internet population in the past five years throughout the world, with Africa and Asia showing a drastic increase between 2007 and 2012.
