Share Your Story @ #SMWLAGOS 2019 … Event Submissions NOW OPEN
Indeed, with great influence comes great responsibility. How will we use our stories and our platforms for the greater good? What do WE want our collective future as Nigeria and as a continent to look like? Our country and Africa is depending on us. We can only move forward if every citizen sees themselves as stewards of our nation and Africa’s prosperity.
That being said we invite YOU to take action and be a part of this important conversation.

STORIES: With Great Influence Comes Great Responsibility
“The stories we tell, consume and share have the potential to shape who we are and what we become. The number of social media users worldwide in 2018 is 3.2 billion, up 13 percent year-on-year. By 2020 almost 5 billion people will be connected. Given its scale, social media has become the world’s most influential storytelling platform. Whatever form they take, the stories we tell through social media have the power to reach and influence more than 60% of people on the planet.” – Toby Daniels, Founder, Social Media Week
African culture and tradition is rooted in storytelling. Historically this has been our primary way of communication. Our stories serve as a reference point and are integral to our identity as Africans. Our use of story as a tool beyond communication has always been paramount. The current digital paradigm however has allowed for the amplification of our stories and enabled us to have tremendous impact beyond our communities, our countries and the continent’s borders. It is also the case, that with this impact comes great responsibility and an obligation to use our collective influence to move Africa forward.
At #SMWLAGOS 2019 we’ll take a deep dive into the power of the stories we tell and how as content creators, policymakers, brands, journalists and citizens we can influence our community, customers, audience and constituents for the greater good.
