It’s been a while since we’ve shared a #SMWLagosExperiences story with you.

Without further ado we give you Olabanji Alfred’s retelling of his time at SMW Lagos 2014. Banji is a Lagos-based blogger and sports and social media enthusiast who recently began an online forum devoted to football.

To my chagrin, the inaugural edition of Social Media Week Lagos came and passed without me having the vaguest idea it was happening. Barely a month prior to this year’s edition, I learnt of the annual worldwide event. As a social media enthusiast, I reckoned it would turn out to be one of the most memorable events of my entire life thus far, besides being an opportunity in commercial terms.

Nearly all the events I registered for and attended fulfilled my expectations. My writing skills and blogging orientation took a leap of improvement, having learnt from expert Bloggers such as the celebrated Luvvie Ajayi of Awesomely Luvvie (whose blog I now passionately follow), and Tech veterans of WordPress Nigeria, namely Don Caprio, Adesoji Adegbulu et al.

The Afterhours held at the majestic Club Pravada was probably all a music industry practitioner could ask for, considering the turn up of eminent personalities like Obi Asika, Efe Omorogbe of Now Muzik cohorts, Sasha P, Banky W, Queen Fade of the Beat 99.9fm and others! It was a pleasurable experience worth recollecting!

The distinguishing input by Alder Consulting, regarding the release of the definitive social media report, is indeed pivotal to the event particularly the historic delineating of the social media employment map’ vis-a vis the monstrous malady of unemployment ravaging the socio-economic fabric of the nation, More so, clarifying the available designations  within the social media space.

The Forbes Africa panel on the Entertainment business in Africa was unequivocally as enlightening as inspiring! My often-criticized ‘’think outside the box’’ mentality was gladly lent a measure of credence by the masterclass session held at the Experience Hub by Social Finch Digital Marketing – on social innovation, within the purview of business and entrepreneurship.

My time at Social Media Week Lagos 2014 helped me develop new skills to focus on building an online identity for my brand.
